“A child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health and deserves the same quality of support.” Kate Middleton
Hello, I’m Emily and I’m passionate about helping young people to transform their lives by giving them the support they need to become happier, calmer and more confident versions of themselves.
I use Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, which is an approach underpinned by modern neuroscience and empowers young people to work towards their goals and overcome the problems that are holding them back.
It does not require your child to revisit negative past experiences; instead we acknowledge they happened and help them get from where they are, to where they want to be.
I always knew I wanted to specialise in working with children in one capacity or another; my work with Drama clubs in schools and independent clubs filled me with so much pride and joy. Seeing the children I worked with expand their imaginations, develop super communicative skills and grow in confidence was priceless.
But it was actually my own personal experience with solution focused therapy, to help me overcome my anxieties as a teenager, that truly inspired me to choose a career in child therapy.
It was particularly important to me that I trained in an approach that had a psycho-educational element to the process; meaning children are taught to understand their brain, how it works to create some of the problems they are experiencing and how to take action to make the positive changes they are seeking.
Before anyone decides whether to book sessions, I offer a one hour, initial consultation. This is an opportunity for you and your child to meet me, discuss best hopes and I will also explain the brain in relation to their well-being in an easy to understand way. This is super helpful for them in realising how to start building more healthy habits and for you too in seeing how you can support the process and beyond.
My experience of therapy in my younger years was underpinned by this understanding. It allowed me to have more autonomy over my personal change process. I was able to start being the best version of myself I could be, without the stress, anxiety and fears from the past – and I want to be able to help children experiencing struggles with their mental health do the same.
I’ll also provide a relaxation download for your child to listen to before they go to bed to help improve sleep problems and support the positive changes they are making in therapy.
I work with children from 7 years to young adults, and areas I can support with include:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Anger
- Low Mood
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
- Self-harm
- School Anxieties
- Low Confidence & Self-Esteem
- Sleep Issues
- Fears & Phobias
My flexible, creative and empathetic nature allows me to engage children positively, keeping sessions fun as well as informative and helpful. I understand from my own experiences with therapy as a child that change is slower when they are dreading their next session!
I’m able to adapt my sessions to work with children who need additional support due to learning difficulties, disabilities and neurodivergence. I provide a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ young people.
And I also believe that, as someone who isn’t far off a ‘young person’ myself, I have the benefit of being able to create a really strong initial rapport with children, as there is a perceived sense of relatability.
I’m fully insured, have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate and a member of the following professional bodies:
- National Board for Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP)
- Association For Solutions Focused Hypnotherapy (AFSFH)
- National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)
- Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
