I’m Kendra, and in addition to being a therapist, I have more than a decade of experience working with children, young people, and their families in various roles, including as a Children’s Rights Advocate for Barnardo’s. I hold a first-class honours degree in Children and Young People’s Care and Education, along with a Foundation Degree in Children’s Care, Learning, and Development. My background also includes extensive knowledge and experience in safeguarding children.
During my career, I’ve supported families facing tough challenges such as anxiety, depression, financial hardship, poverty, and low self-esteem. Witnessing the profound impact of these issues on children’s mental health has been heart-wrenching. Many young individuals lose their spark for life while grappling with adverse childhood experiences or trauma, and I fully grasp the long-term damage it can cause.
Motivated by a desire to intervene early and prevent future mental health struggles, I pursued training in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy. I was drawn to the solution-focused approach because it places children at the forefront, empowering them to recognise and harness their remarkable strengths. It minimises the need to dwell extensively on past trauma or problems. Instead, it centres on identifying how they aspire to feel, behave, or cope differently, ultimately guiding them towards a more positive future. It’s about reigniting their passion, instilling calmness, boosting confidence, and helping them to thrive in life.
I work with children from 7 years to young adults, and areas I can help with include;
- Anxiety
- Stress and overwhelm
- Low mood
- Anger management
- Social anxiety
- Low self-esteem
- Low confidence
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders (OCD)
- Emetophobia (fear of vomiting)
- Agoraphobia
- Exam anxiety and stress
- Trauma
- Self-harm
- Sleep problems
Before you and your child decide to work with me, I offer a complimentary 1-hour initial consultation. This can take place online or in person and serves as an excellent opportunity for both you and your child to meet me, discuss concerns, and gain insights into my approach and how it can be beneficial. Together, we can also define your child’s aspirations and goals.
Moreover, my therapeutic approach not only facilitates positive changes but also equips children with a better understanding of their own minds. This awareness empowers them to autonomously manage overwhelming emotions, unwanted behaviours, and cultivate healthier habits for life.
Although the sessions are child-centred, they also provide invaluable insights for parents, helping them understand not only their child’s habits and behaviours but also their own and their impact on their children and family as a whole.
As a dedicated Youth Fairy therapist, I actively engage in ongoing supervision and continuous professional development to refine my skills. I hold an up-to-date Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and am proud to be a member of the following professional bodies:
- National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)
- Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH)
- Complementary and National Health Council (CNHC)
- National Board of Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP)
