‘It’s not my job, it’s my passion!’
Being a Youth Fairy is perfect for me. Nothing beats helping children and young people to flourish and smile again. I literally glow with pride when I see their confidence and self-worth grow.
This is not to say that I am perfect, far from it, perfect people don’t exist. We can only aim to be the ‘best version’ of ourselves. Humans are not robots, so sometimes we benefit from professional support to grow this best version. Reaching out for professional guidance should never be regarded as a weakness, it is a strength!
Before becoming a therapist, I worked full time for over 20 years, supporting children, young people, parents and staff, within an educational setting and I bring this wealth of experience into my role as a Youth Fairy.
I work with children from 7 years old to young adults and am able to adapt my approach to work with those with additional needs, special educational needs, disabilities and neurodiversity. I am an LGBTQ+ friendly therapist.
I provide a free, 1-hour Initial Consultation, face to face in Formby or online. This is an opportunity for your child to meet me, discuss their presenting difficulties and identify best hopes from our work together. I will also take time to explain how our brains work (in an easy-to-understand way) to create your child’s specific struggles and, most importantly, what we can do about it. I will also provide a relaxation audio track to aid sleep and support the process.
” Nothing is impossible. The word itself says “I’m possible.” Audrey Hepburn
The way in which I work is solution focused; a modern approach, backed by the latest research in neuroscience. This means that we work by focusing on the DESIRED changes in thoughts, behaviours and emotional responses, rather than reliving the past, or needing to dwell on problems in too much detail.
Although change can feel hard and take effort to begin with – the process should feel very positive and empowering for your child.
Areas I can support young people with include:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Anger
- Low Mood
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
- Self-harm
- School Anxieties
- Emetophobia
- Disordered Eating
- Low Confidence & Self-Esteem
- Perfectionism
- Sleep Issues
- Trauma
- Fears & Phobias
- Health Anxiety
- Sports Performance
- Exam Stress
- School well-being programmes in primary, secondary and post-16 settings
I’m qualified in Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and have also completed the Medical Hypnotherapy Diploma. I hold a degree in working with children and young people, which focused on how children develop, how they learn and how best to support them.
I understand the importance of building genuine rapport with your child and provide a safe space for them to explore change and recognise their individual strengths and capabilities.
Of course, this comes with a large dose of creative fun and bucket loads of humour thrown in for good measure – these are the necessary key ingredients for positive change and a happy client.
I am fully insured and hold an Enhanced DBS certificate. I’m also a member of the following professional bodies:
- National Board for Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP)
- Association For Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AFSFH)
- National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)
- Complementary and Natural Health Council (CNHC)
I am a wife, a proud mum to two amazing young adults and I have an adorable dog called Toby. I am a yoga and Pilates enthusiast and I enjoy swimming. I have a passion for skiing too, thanks to accompanying 100’s of young people from school to the snowy slopes of Italy and Austria. I have proudly helped to build a much-needed school for children living in a Maasai community in Tanzania, accompanied by a small group of amazing and dedicated young people.
