“Giving every child a chance to reach their full potential is the best work anyone can do.” Hilary Clinton
I would say this quotation sums up my life’s work as my goal has been to support children in all aspects of their lives to give them the best ways forward to achieve, thrive and be happy in their own skin. I believe that young people who are listened too, given support and invested in will then grow in their self-esteem and confidence. I am now proud to be able to support families in my role as therapist at the Youth Fairy.
Before becoming a therapist and joining The Youth Fairy team I’ve worked with vunerable children for over 25 years in schools ranging from inner city London to rural primary schools as a qualified teacher and headteacher
I have specialised in supporting children with emotional and pastoral needs including introducing community wellbeing programmes for children and their families. These opportunities have given me a number of experiences working with children with a range of needs. I thoroughly enjoy helping children, young people and their families.
In my sessions I work in a fun and playful way to support the identified needs of each individual child or young person. I am able to support children with anxiety, stress and depression and can help them to overcome phobias and fears including school attendance anxiety. Whilst helping young people to think positively I am able to support them in making positive choices and to value themselves.
I’m also passionate about the solution focused way I work; using tried and tested methods to support children, young people and their parents. I do this by helping them to understand how their brain works, the role their emotions play and how to stride forward positively. By focussing on setting goals and looking at preferred outcomes this style of therapy does not need them to go back over the past or their previous choices made. The sessions focus on the future. I find this to be a rewarding and positive type of therapy in which young people enjoy and look forward to coming to the sessions.
Working within the solution focused way I have the pleasure of seeing young people’s self-esteem flourish and their self-care skills unfold.
I am proud to be part of The Youth Fairy team, based in Salisbury, Wiltshire and online.
