“You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” A.A. Milne
Hi there, I’m Rebecca and I am passionate about supporting children with their mental health and wellbeing so that they can thrive in life.
I feel very privileged that, in my career, I have had the opportunity to work with so many children with varying needs and abilities, including physical disabilities, complex medical needs and special educational needs. As a therapist and wellbeing lead in schools, I have worked with many children who have experienced anxiety and low self-esteem and I’ve seen the impact that this can have on them in an educational and social setting.
I work with children from 6+ to young adults and can adapt my approach to work with those with additional needs, including disabilities and neurodiversity. Areas I can support with include:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Low mood
- Anger management
- Social anxiety
- Low self-esteem
- Low confidence
- Sports/exam performance
- Fears and phobias
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders (OCD)
- Exam stress and anxiety
- Transition to secondary school/college
- Trauma
- Self-harm
- Sleep problems
I have also supported children who have played a high level of sport and, in addition to the other areas I work with, I am particularly passionate about helping children reach their full potential from a performance perspective. Whether that be sports, exam performance or public speaking.
My approach
I have always known that supporting children to achieve whatever goals they set for themselves has been my passion. I was particularly keen to train in and adopt a solution-focused approach to therapy, especially because there is a strong emphasis on educating children about their brain in relation to wellbeing. This enables us to support them in developing their own tool kit now and moving into their adult lives.
This approach supports them to gain control of their thoughts and feelings and develop the skills and resources they need to excel. There is nothing more exciting than being able to support a child to work towards their ideal preferred future. Seeing children develop their confidence and understanding of themselves to live healthy, happy and fulfilled lives is an absolute honour.
A bit about me
In addition to being a therapist, I have more than a decade of experience working with children, and their families as a teacher and an Assistant Headteacher in mainstream and SEN education. I have a first-class honours degree in Sport Therapy, Health and Fitness, along with a Postgraduate Certificate as a qualified SENDCO.
Building rapport with the children I work with is key to helping them achieve any goal they set for themselves. I have a Cockapoo called Blu, who keeps me very entertained with his funny little character and I am also a Tottenham Hotspur fan (well, someone has to support them). I am also very lucky to work for Beams charity, supporting children with neurodiversity to develop their independence and confidence.
I am extremely proud to be part of The Youth Fairy team, based in Ashford (Kent) and online.
For your reassurance
Before you and your child decide to work with me, I offer a complimentary initial consultation. This can take place online or in person and is an excellent opportunity for both you and your child to meet me, discuss the current situation, and gain an understanding of how solution-focused therapy works.
I am fully insured, have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate and I am a member of the following professional bodies:
- National Council Of Psychotherapists (NCP)
- National Council For Hypnotherapy (NCH)
- Association For Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH)
- Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
