“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.” – Christian D. Larson
Hello, I am Sarah and I’m passionate and dedicated to supporting children, young people, and their families in overcoming life’s challenges. I feel privileged to be part of the Youth Fairies and I strive to empower children to develop confidence, optimism, and unlock their inner strengths so that they can become the best version of themselves.
My Approach
I specialise in helping children aged 6 to early adulthood, discover the power of their minds and build the emotional resilience they need to thrive. My approach is child-centred and tailored to each child’s unique needs, creating a safe, supportive environment where they feel listened to, valued and understood.
I use a blend of creative, evidence-based techniques, including Solution-Focused hypnotherapy and psychotherapy to ensure the process is both engaging and effective. We do not need to dwell on the past, we look for solutions to problems and focus on how we want thing to be rather than how we don’t want them to be. In equipping the child with knowledge and understanding of how their brain works, they can take control and be who they want to be. I believe in balancing the serious work of therapy with creativity and humour, making sessions enjoyable while fostering meaningful progress.
About Me
In addition to being a therapist, my 25 years experience as a nurse working in critical care, has given me a deep understanding of physical and emotional well-being, which I bring into my therapeutic work to provide holistic care tailored to each child’s unique needs. I have worked with children and their families at their most vulnerable, navigating both physical and mental challenges, including pain, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.
It has been deeply moving to witness the significant impact these struggles have on children’s mental health. Many young people lose their joy and enthusiasm for life as they cope with adverse childhood experiences or trauma, and I understand the lasting effects these challenges can have on their well-being.
On a personal note, I have 2 wonderful children and through them I am reminded everyday what a difference it makes to foster trust, love, understanding and good communication skills, especially in navigating our modern, fast-paced world. Having a child with neurodiversity, I have experienced first-hand the specific challenges around supporting and providing for additional needs in and out of school environments. I am therefore mindful of the flexibility and personalised approach to therapy to fit each person’s unique personality and circumstances so that they can make lasting, positive change in their lives.
For your reassurance
I offer a complimentary 1-hour free initial consultation, face to face in Guildford or online. This is an opportunity for you and your child to not only meet me but to be inquisitive, ask questions about how the brain works and understand how to start engaging in the therapeutic process. This is a chance to decide if I am the right person to help you.
I am extremely proud to be part of the Youth Fairy team, with my practice being based in Lightwater and Guildford. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, and am fully insured and bound by the Code of Ethics of the professional associations to which I belong, including:
- National Board of Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP)
- The National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)
- The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH)
- Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
I look forward to working together to create a positive path forward for your child.
